Sicily Slip Dress Pattern: Testing Round Up

Yay, the Sicily Slip Dress Pattern is finally available on my website. After a two-week testing period, I’ve now finalised the pattern and uploaded it onto my online shop.

I would like to share some photos of my pattern testers with you, so you can see how the Sicily looks in different fabrics and on different bodies.

Polina (@polly.sews on Insta) made view B of the dress in size A

What Polina says about the pattern:

I learnt so much about bias cutting and is the best bias dress I’ve made. I’m so happy with how it drapes and gives shape, in comparison to other bias dresses and skirts that I’ve made in the past which weren’t as successful. Everything you explained and all the info provided was so well done and interesting to read through. It only took me 2 hours to sew this up and I think that’s such a bonus! Any feedback I had re typos have already been pointed out. I literally cannot flaw the sizing or anything else about this pattern.

Hope (@hopejgray on Insta) made view A of the dress in size B

What Hope says about the pattern:

I am in LOVE with this pattern! I have made 2 dresses 1st one in view A size C and then another one in view A size B ( pictures below). My measurements are Bust 34”, Waist 28”, Hips 41”, Height 5’5.

The first dress I made loved it, I just wanted a little bit of a tighter fit so I went down a size!

The instructions were super easy to understand and follow!

Amber (@missann1987 on Insta) made view A of the dress in size D for the bust and graded to a size E for the hip

What Amber says about the pattern:

Overall this pattern is beautiful! I have been looking for a pattern like this for a while and this definitely fits the bill. I am encouraged to keep improving my skills when I see all the beautiful Sicily dresses you ladies made!

{…}

Thank you for this awesome pattern and opportunity.

Denise (@denise.does on Insta) made view B of the dress in size I

What Denise says about the pattern:

…the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Well done Jasmin, I’m looking forward to trying this pattern again!

Mel (@melt.stitches on Instagram) made view A in size A and shortened the pattern into a cami top

What Mel says about the pattern:

I just wanted to say, I LOVE this pattern! The cowl neck & silhouette work well together. In comparison to the other indie bias slip dresses available, it's a better fit on me and the cowl neck is more flattering and not too low.

This started out as the View A, slip dress version, but due to my fabric choice, the body of the dress did not work and I had to chop it

Lucy (@lucymakes_things on Instagram) made view A of the dress in size F

Dress is all finished, not a style I would normally choose for myself but I love it! Made a straight size F and I'm happy with the fit. Instructions wise I found it fairly easy to follow.

It was my first bias garment and the bias-cut guide was really helpful! Thanks Jasmin for letting me test another one of your lovely patterns!

Phoebe (@phoeberosita on Insta) made view A of the dress in size A

What Pheobe says about the dress:

In terms of the instructions I loved how there were so many pages on working with slippery fabrics and also working on the bias. I am a fairly experienced sewer although I’ve only ever made one other bias cut garment (with limited success) and don't sew with slippery fabrics a lot so this was new to me. I think this pattern is a great introduction pattern to working with these fabrics. I also feel like I learnt a lot making this pattern which is always a good thing.

Hilda (@sew.h.factor on Insta) made view A of the dress in size A

What Hilda says about the pattern:

I love how romantic the design of this pattern ... And not to mention how great your instructions are. No doubt it will be a hit for sewers from all levels.

Isabella (@whatbellamade on Insta) made view A of the pattern in size C

What Isabella says about the pattern:

I just finished my Sicily Slip Dress yesterday. What a quick sew! I think the most difficult part of the whole process was finding enough space on my floor to cut out the fabric!

I sewed a straight size C. My measurements are 37”-29.5”-42” . I used a woven viscose for my dress. I made no adjustments except for shortening the straps.

AnaLuz (@inven.tress on Insta) made view B in size size D

What Analuz says about the pattern:

I am still in Awe at how easy Both views of this dress were to sew.

Well done Jasmin!

I did not find any issues with the instructions.

Hannah (@hqmakes on instagram) made view A of the dress in size E

What Hannah says about this pattern:

This is my first time pattern testing, and it's been so fun. I made View A out of a rayon challis, and I really like how it turned out. I'm not a very fast sewer, but it also came together quite quickly - a one-evening project! This was my first time sewing a bias-cut garment, so I really appreciated the tips at the beginning of the instructions. I'm 5'7" and my measurements are: 41" bust, 32" waist, 40" hips, and I made a size E.

Georgia (@georgias.portfolio on Instagram) made view A of the dress in size B

What Georgia says about the pattern:

I sewed this up in a hour and a half, and that was with me taking my time. I really enjoyed this pattern and will definitely make a second one soon! Thanks

Jasmin Henzi

it's going to be a popular one xx

Ella (@mumblesmakes on Insta) made view A of the dress in size G

What Ella says about this pattern:

I’m 5’10’’ measurements 44/35/45 and I made size G view A in pure viscose. The only change I made was lengthening the straps, not sure by how much though I just winged it.

This is a lovely dress and I can’t wait to wear it out! (As soon as I hang it for 24 hrs and hem, of course). As soon as I put it on my partner said how great it looked. So congrats Jasmin, I’m sure it’s going to be a huge success

Sarah (@sarah.eloise.sews on Insta) made view A of the dress in size A

What Sarah says about the pattern:

I made a straight size A in some leftover poly satin thing from Spotlight that I used to make a skirt from last year! This was so easy to make and it feels so lovely to wear! I think I now have every pattern Jasmin has made hehe! I'm hoping a wedding booked for November goes ahead so I can wear this.

Harmony (@scrunchedco on Insta) made view A of the dress

What Harmony says about the pattern:

I loved this dress! It was super easy to make. I am a beginner at sewing using patterns, and so I was nervous to start but it turned out great. I had never done bias cutting and that was explained very well!

Becca (@36pieces on Insta) made view A of the dress in size B

What Becca says about the pattern:

I made View A Size B. This was a super easy dress to sew. I agree with a lot of you that cutting was the hardest part. I would consider myself a more advanced sewist, but I still learned a lot of new things about bias sewing from the instructions. I think the best types of sewing instructions are ones that teach you new skills, so I really appreciated all the information sprinkled throughout!

Blaire (@theblairestitch on Insta) made view A of the dress in size A

What Blaire says about the pattern:

I would totally recommend it to people looking to sew using the bias for the first time. I've never done it before and the hardest part was the cutting! All the tips you include are super helpful.

Meg (@meghandmade on Instagram) made view B of the dress in size D

What Meg says about the pattern:

This is my first time in a very long time sewing on the bias. I have avoided it for years - probably because I always thought bias garments wouldn’t suit me. I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone for this one!

I found the instructions clear and easy to understand. I think the illustrations really help in understanding the written instructions, especially at the burrito method step. They compliment each other well.
